Deep within the fastness of Ben Bison, far below the living areas of the hold but near to the armory and salle, is found the freehold's stithy, where forge, anvil and all the tools of the smith's trade are kept ready for use.
While the stithy forges are not fed with balefire, they are more than capable of crafting fine armor, weapons and tools. In addition to metalwork, the stithy also houses facilities for crafting glass, as well as kilns for firing clay. The anvil itself is a Treasure, which toughens any item forged upon it, as per the secret nocker Art of Infusion. Blades of glass can be hammered to be as resiliant as steel upon its surface.
Ben Bison does not currently house any smiths, although the stithy is occasionally used by Squire Tamlyn mac Dougal or the nockers of Tinker's Dam. Much of the metallurgical needs of the freehold, as indeed is true of the county at large, are in fact seen to by the nocker motley in the city, who have superior facilities, including a balefire forge. The weapons of Ben Bison's armory, however, are created and repaired here, as are horse shoes and hardware for the faerie steeds raised at Finney's Farm.
