Prodigals

The gallain are not the only others with whom the kithain of Rowan-Oak share their realm. Cautious alliances have been forged with the Prodigals of the region, who share many ambitions and concerns with the fae. On the eastern edge of the Barony of Fair Oaks is a region where the fae do not go, save by express invitation. Somewhere between the ridges here is the sacred place of the Fianna who tend the Sept of Seven Springs. The werewolves are fond of the fae, but have made it clear that their caern is not to be trifled with, nor is their work to be disturbed by faerie mischief. Few kithain in Rowan-Oak care to press the point.

Far more tentative is the arrangement reached with the wizards at Fern Holler. Details on the treaty are scant, but it seems that the Verbena witches were approached by the sidhe, and themselves asked certain members of the Buckthorn Tragos to mediate an agreement. Whatever the result, mortal mages are sometimes to be found at Lady Ausmandine's court, although they tend to be tight-lipped about their business there. Some say they seek to barter for dross, others that they are concerned about certain strange happenings in the vicinity of Iron Mountain.

The Children of Lilith are not known to have a presence outside of the immediate vicinity of the city of Roanoke, the only part of the county with enough population to support them. Little is known with certainty, but what information Dame Angarhad has uncovered suggests that there are at least two, and no more than five, vampires in the city. They are said to be refugees or exiles from the coastal cities, where their kind are rumored to be fighting each other in a merciless war of dominance.

Still less is known of ghosts, although some surely exist in a region with a history as long as this area has. If anybody knows anything at all about the restless dead, it would be the sluagh of the county. But no one has asked them and no sluagh has ever been known to raise the subject voluntarily. Folktales of hauntings remain little more than interesting hearsay to the ruling courts.
