Master Coulkan came to Rowan-Oak with his lady-love, Lady Ausmandine , to serve as her Seer when she took the Barony of Ben Bison three years ago. Quiet where Ausmandine is boisterous, retiring while she is outgoing, Coulkan does little to draw attention to himself, conducting his affairs and those of the Freehold from behind the scenes. Coming and going on soft-shod feet, he makes rare appearances outside his chambers, generally when least looked for. Strangely, he is seldom to be found in his chambers when one is seeking him there. The fae of Ben Bison are used to his odd ways, and have long since stopped trying to second-guess him. For all his self-effacing ways, the fae of Rowan-Oak credit Master Coulkan with deep lore and powerful Arts of Glamour. He is certainly a Namer, and practices divinatory Arts as well. He is reputed to possess a potent Treasure which allows him to treat grievous injuries, and to produce odd elixirs. The precise nature of this artefact remains as mysterious as the seer himself. However gifted Coulkan might be, his Art has limits. He was unable to cure the Countess Rosamund when she was poisoned several months ago, although his lore helped to find a cure for her at the Calyx of Ea in the Deep Dreaming. And while he has his suspicions concerning goings-on at the sinister freehold of Iron Mountain, he has not yet managed to pierce the spells which shroud the place from magical scrutiny. In mortal seeming, Colin McKenna is equally reclusive, lending a hand around the farm owned by his wife's uncle Bill Finney. Since the farm is largely given over to pasturing horses and growing garden vegetables, Colin has little to do. Mostly, he just keeps Bill company, encouraging the peppery oldster to keep up his painting, a hobby he took up after his disapproving late wife passed away. Colin drives into town once a week to keep Bill in groceries, and to visit Mandy at work. Mostly he keeps to himself, a habit which the local folk understand and respect. Most spare the lanky, denim-clad man a smile and wave, and forget having seen him five minutes after he's gone. More memorable are Colin's infrequent appearances at the regular Sunday-night open-mic at the Kettle, in Blackstone. Master Coulkan's fae mien is only slightly more prepossessing. He is tall and lean, with pale grey eyes lightly touched by crow's feet, shoulder-long dark hair shot with silver, and the fine bones and peaked ears that mark him as sidhe. His voile is a simple scholar's gown of brown velvet. He wears no House badge, although he is considered an honorary Fiona, by virtue of being consort to the Baroness Ausmandine. |
