The vast majority of fae in the county are commoners, whether they dwell deep in the hollows of the hills or in the relative bustle of the city and townships of the north of the county. Each of the eight commoner kiths are found here, in varying numbers.
Boggans are quite comfortable with a farming life which keeps them busy from before dawn to well after dusk. Likewise, many trolls prefer to dwell away from the city, and make a life working for the National Park Service as rangers on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or leading wilderness hikes along the Appalachian trail. The trail also draws eshu to the county to challenge its rugged reaches. While nockers might be thought out-of-place in such a largely rural demense, Rowan-Oak in fact supporst them in large numbers, both at Virginia Polytechnic Institue in Blacksburg, and in the many transportation-related industries and museums in Roanoke and Salem. In fact, a large enclave of nockers holds a freehold of their own, Tinker's Dam, its forges and workshops hidden behind the facade of a mortal scrapyard. Redcaps pass easily amongst backwoods rednecks and urban toughs (yes, even Roanonke has gangs). Satyrs find the unspoiled wilderness refreshing to their untame hearts, and pooka of many varieties find that their animal forms are less conspicuous in an area where animals, both domestic and wild, are common. Rumors persist of entire enclaves of sluagh who live here with no one the wiser.
The spectrum of commoner outlooks is as broad as the range of kiths involved, and in fact each of the hundred some-odd common kithain of Rowan-Oak has a unique perspective. Broad lines can be drawn however between those who dwell rurally like the satyrs of Fiddler's Green, and those who live in Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Roanoke or other sizeable towns, who tend to consider themselves more cosmopolitan. Another major divide are those who accept sidhe rule, such as Baron Elmer Brickie and his wife, and those who do not, such as the nockers of Tinker's Dam.
No one has ever attempted anything so Banal as a census if the region's kithain, so there is no knowing how many fae call the County of Rowan-Oak home. There are, at any rate, far too many inhabitants to list here. A brief account of some especially noteworthy individuals should suffice.
